Thanks to a win on penalties against France on Wednesday night, Valencia CF players Ferran Torres and Hugo Guillamón reached the Under-19s European Championships final in Armenia, and have a chance at earning a prestigious medal before they return to training at the Ciudad Deportiva.
The pair played all 120 minutes of the semifinal, held at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan. Torres led the attack for 'La Rojita' and almost found the net at the end of the first half -only just failing to latch onto a good pass by Miranda into the six-yard-box. Guillamón, meanwhile, was his typical solid self in the defence.
The game remained goalless after both normal time and extra time, and thus a penalty shootout would decide which of the two sides would make their way into the final. Guillamón would miss his spot kick, but Torres was given the opportunity to take the definitive fourth penalty. He dispatched it well, sealing the win for Spain and taking the generation that previously won the 2017 Under-17s European Championship into another final.
